#WCW: ISSA RAE

While our first few #WCW features have consisted of female writers in the music industry, we wanted to expand and start recognizing female writers of all types. This week's feature is dedicated to a female writer in film.

Meet ISSA RAE... Writer, Producer and Star of HBO's most recent hit television series Insecure.

Based on the web-series entitled Awkward Black Girl, which was created by Issa back in 2011 and won a Shorty award for Best Web Show in 2013, Insecure is a comedy series about two non-stereotypical, modern-day black women and the challenges they face in their careers and personal relationships.

Issa wanted to introduce a show reflecting the lives and authenticity of real black women that women of all races could watch and relate to.

Solange Knowles, one of our previous #WCWs, is the Music Supervisor for Insecure, which features music from independent as well as established artists of color.

The series was just renewed for a second season, so if you haven't already started watching, catch up.

Insecure airs every Sunday at 10:30pm on HBO.
