#WCW: NDIA

This week we caught up with Ohio-native Ndia to explore what it's like being a woman in music.

Ndia is a creative spirit who sings, writes and plays piano. She began her music career in a girl group at the age of 12. She's now riding her own wave solo. Ndia has opened up at concerts for 2 Chainz, Dej Loaf, Young Dro and Cash Out, as well as sung hooks for platinum-selling recording artist Young Jeezy.

We had fun shooting around downtown Atlanta this weekend. Keep reading to get to know more about this week's 'WRITEher Crush Wednesday.'

WHO IS NDIA?

NDIA: I am every woman.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU DO?

NDIA: I do progressive R&B and Pop music. I write my own songs, and I'm a self-taught musician. I taught myself how to play the piano, and I just started playing the guitar, which I love.

IF YOU WERE NOT AN ARTIST, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

NDIA: An astronaut. I'm really into cosmology and astronomy.

WHAT FEMALE ARTISTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?

NDIA: Nao. FKA Twigs. Marina and The Diamonds. Solange.

WHAT FEMALE ARTISTS DO YOU LOOK UP TO? AND WHY?

NDIA: Selena, performance-wise, because she just had great stage presence. She never had choreography, yet her dancing always looked so effortless. Lauryn Hill because she addressed and tackled socially controversial issues.

SPEAKING OF SOCIAL ISSUES, WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A FUCK BOY?

NDIA: Someone who intentionally deceives, lies, and has no regard for women and their feelings. Someone who is only concerned with self-gain.

WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE TO A FUCK BOY?

NDIA: I logged into his Facebook and saw a message from a girl he was apparently sleeping with, so I responded pretending to be him. I started dissing her and talking shit about her.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A WOMAN?

NDIA: Double standards that work in our favor. Being able to hit a guy without him hitting me back.

WHAT RELATIONSHIP ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN?

NDIA: Everything comes so easy these days, I think it's important for a woman to actually ensure that a guy values her for her and not as a just a sexual object. Don't give it up until you have established a true bond.

WHAT IS COMING UP FOR NDIA?

Friday, October 21st, NDIA will be in Denver for a guest-appearance on The Panel, a talk show about love and relationships. NDIA will be discussing her experiences and offering advice, as well as closing the show with a live performance.

October 25th, NDIA will be at Georgia State University performing live acoustic at the Green Light In The Basement event thrown by the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
